Writing a policy, consistency and coherence for the whole school

As a teaching school we are passionate about Bar Modelling and see it as a powerful technique which offers a coherent approach to structuring mathematics throughout the school.”

Embedding Bar Modelling

Book Now

Bar Modelling provides learners with a visual representation for their learning and problem solving. This session looks in more detail at how bar modelling can be used to develop reasoning and problem solving in each of the four operations and the relationships it exposes, as well as more complex problem solving with percentages, fractions, ratio and algebra.

Participants will be given plenty of opportunities to try this approach and discuss how it can have an impact on their teaching back in class. A key part of this workshop will be about how to embed this tool in your maths curriculum, drawing on the experience of case studies in other schools and starting to adapt your school’s policy to include this model. This can then be developed back at school.

Key Outcomes

  • Participants will have a deeper understanding of how bar modelling can be used as a key reasoning and problem solving tool
  • Participants will be confident in how to use this model in their classrooms and start to embed it in wider school practice
  • Participants will better understand how to embed this representation in their school’s everyday teaching.

Alliance members will receive a discounted price of £100.00 per delegate.
