Suitable for: Senior school leaders, aspirant leaders, subject leaders, middle leaders and class teachers
This is an open house event whereby participants will get the opportunity to observe 2 lessons (one in Year 3 and one in Year 4) and spend time unpicking these together. We will spend time reflecting on the use of a high quality textbook to support a mastery approach and the pedagogy needed to support this.
Participants will have plenty of opportunities to reflect on their own classroom practice and, using the lesson observations, discuss how to develop a mastery approach. Discussions will focus on how teaching caters for all pupil groups, depth of mathematical understanding and next steps. There will be opportunities to triangulate what is seen with evidence in books as well, looking at the role of intelligent practice and fluency, alongside the use of journaling
- Through lesson observations and triangulation of evidence participants will have a better understanding of what best practice in maths looks like in Years 3 and 4
- Participants will better understand how a high quality textbook can support a mastery approach and have tangible ideas to take back and use in their own classroom setting
