This session will explore, in detail, one of the 5 big ideas for a Mastery approach to teaching Mathematics – representations and structures. This session will be facilitated by a Mastery Specialist and will explore the use of representations and structures to elicit deep conceptual understanding of mathematical contexts.

We will strip back Mathematics and discover the underlying structures associated to key concepts and identify how this can be represented so that all children understand why the Maths works in the way that it does. This session is more than using resources, it will encourage you to think deeply about the purpose of the representation to ensure that conceptual understanding is developed in all children regarding key mathematical structures.

Key Outcomes:

  • Participants will develop their own understanding of representation and structure as one of the 5 big ideas for a Mastery approach.
  • Participants will explore, and understand, the how to promote the use of representations to ensure that structures are evident and understood by all.
  • Participants will enjoy the opportunity to explore a variety of representations for themselves.

Alliance members will receive a discounted price of £40.00 per delegate.
